About The Author
Joellen Ulliman
Joellen Ulliman followed a very interesting path to becoming a writer. She always loved language arts, even as a child; she spent hours reading and writing stories, plays, and poems. As a youngster, her favorite summer days started with visiting the book mobile that came to her neighborhood Monday mornings.
She was a reading and English teacher for over 20 years. She primarily taught middle school. Most recently, she was the curator at a local historical society.
When she is not working, writing, or taking care of pets, she enjoys many activities: gardening, hiking, yoga, exercising, reading, and spending time with her husband, family, and friends. Her two grown children and three grandchildren hold a very special place in her heart.
Joellen enjoys the art of writing just as much as she did as a little girl. She continues to find inspiration in family life, nature, her faith, and the complex yet beautiful world around her.

Layla, the Amazing
Layla, an amazing German shepherd puppy, came to live with her new owner and his family during the Covid 19 quarantine of 2020 when the world shut down. People were worried and confused by a virus no one yet fully understood. Having time for dog training enticed her owner to adopt Layla while he was home with his parents during the epidemic. Her routine days were highlighted by long walks, exploring, and chasing Bella Mae, the family’s beloved beagle. She met many new friends along the way. Her favorite times were in the evenings, when she and her owner enjoyed special time just being together.
As she grew into a wonderful family member, she also found her purpose. Layla learned love, loyalty, and resiliency . . . and most importantly, she discovered that being part of a pack was so much more than just living with others.
This inspiring true story is told from Layla’s perspective. Her simple, honest tale is heartfelt, leaving the reader with lessons never to be forgotten.
